Audacity’s many powerful features can be increased with plugins. [1] Some plugins are already installed. Other plugins are not included but can be downloaded and installed. The Muse Hub also gives you access to many plugins and sounds, some free and some premium.

Required knowledge:

1. Installing plugins

Once downloaded, most of the plugins install automatically. [2]

2. FFmpeg for Audacity

I downloaded an mp4 from YouTube and attempted to import it into Audacity only to be confronted by an error message informing me to install the FFmpeg for Audacity plugin. This plugin is crucial to a few tasks you commonly want to perform, such as importing and exporting MP4 and WAV format files. It is not included in or shipped with Audacity for legal reasons. [3]

  1. Visit download FFmpeg for Audacity 3.2.0 and later for Windows and Mac
  2. Choose the correct download based on your operating system; I downloaded FFmpeg_v2.2.2_for_Audacity_on_Windows_64bit.exe for my Windows 10 laptop
  3. Double-left-click the downloaded executable to install
