Labels are designed to be printed on a variety of self-adhesive label sheets that can be purchased at your stationary supplier. You do not have to use sticky labels, you can simply select a label that offers and appropriate size for your needs and print on normal paper then cut the printed page up into labels.

1. Set up
Download the file and open a new Word document. Switch your Show/Hide on so that you can see all formatting marks.
2. Start merge


- Select Mailings menu tab
- Click on the Show/Hide button
- Select the Labels option
- Select the appropriate Label vendor for the labels you purchased
- Select the Product from that vendor
- Confirm the dimesnions of your labels under the Label information for the selected label
- Click the OK button
3. Select data source
For this tutorial, the data source is a CSV file.


- Select Recipients
- Use an Existing List…
- A template is inserted matching the dimensions of the label chosen
- Note the «Next Record» controls in all but the first label of the template
4. Insert merge fields
Use the Preview Results button as you follow the steps to get an idea of what the actual final results will be.


- Click the Insert Merge Field button
- Select the relevant Fields to add the information from the underlying data source
- The Merge Fields in place in the first label of the template
- Use the Update Labels each time you make any changes
- All changes must be made to the first label of the template
- Merge Fields copied to all subsequent labels in the template
5. Complete
Use the Preview Results button to check what the final result will look like.
Complete the Merge as you would a standard Mail Merge.
6. Barcodes
You can create your own barcode labels — for example ISBN stickers in books — by following this simple two-step process:
- Include the ISBN as a merge field
- Format the ISBN placeholder with the Code 39 Font TrueType (see the Create barcodes in Excel tutorial for the instructions on installing this free font)
