Creating Custom Views in Excel allows you to save your favourite settings in terms of filters, sort orders and print settings, saving you time when you want to see that specific data again. It is as close to a query as you will come in Excel.

In this tutorial:
  1. Default
  2. Custom

In the below example, I have used the spreadsheet created in the Filtering data in Excel tutorial.

1. Default

Start by creating a default view so that you can switch between views with ease.

  1. Activate the View menu tab
  2. Select the Custom Views command button
  3. The Custom Views dialog open
  4. Click the Add button
  5. Add an obvious Name such as Default
  6. Select any additional options you need for the View
  7. Click the OK button

2. Custom

Now that you have a Default view to switch back to with ease, create your actual Custom View. One of my favourite acts from the 80’s is Depeche Mode:

  1. Create a new Custom View using Steps 1 to 4 above, adding a new descriptive name for your new Custom View
  2. Click the OK button
  3. There are now two custom views, select the one you wish to activate
  4. Click the Show button
