The 2022 CAT PAT topic for Matric learners was announced during the first week of the 1st term and the Grade 10 topic in the first week of the 2nd term. The Matrics are now well into their PATs and I am currently busy brainstorming ideas with the Grade 10s. You will find my ideas and thoughts below — I will update the post as I progress and when the Grade 11 topic is announced…

Grade 12 Topic: Protection of Privacy when using ICTs
I am honestly not a fan of this topic; it is dry and academic.
LINKS to some relevant resources are listed below. These resources will help give you an idea of the type of research required. Although you may use the resources from this list, you must also include resources that you found on your own. (Grade 12 Learner Guide 2022, p. 8)

The Learner Guide specifies a set of aspects that could form the focus of the investigation:
- Online transactions and financial privacy
- Social media and youth privacy
- POPI Act
- Targeted marketing or advertising invading the privacy of people
- Management of big data in respect of privacy
- Internet of Things security and privacy
- Privacy and the use of smartphones
- Location information being shared could invade your privacy
I suspect the best choices are options 2, 4, 7 & 8. I would steer clear of options 1, 3 & 5.
