Personal Computer Memory Card International Association (“PCMCIA”) technology enabled the expansion of laptop motherboards in the same way that PCI extension cards expanded PC motherboards.

I owned the pictured Vodafone Mobile Connect 3G/GPRS PCMCIA data card in the early 2000’s to add cellphone Internet connectivity to my laptop. Laptops are no longer equipped with PCMCIA slots. It is unlikely that you will see one “in the wild” and they are not included in the ICT or CAT syllabi.
