The personal computer (“PC”) is a multi-purpose computer designed to be affordable for an individual user, with matching size and capabilities. The term “personal computer” was originally used by IBM to refer to their IBM Personal Computer, the term later came to refer to all computers of all brands. Apple was and is the exception to this rule, with the Apple Mac. This has given rise to users often being categorised as either PC users or Mac users. [1] [2]
A standard PC consists of the following:
- Hardware
- tower case
- motherboard
- PSU
- CPU
- RAM
- a main storage device, an HDD or SSD
- an optical drive
- a monitor, typically connected via VGA or HDMI
- a keyboard, typically connected via USB
- mouse, typically connected via USB
- tower case
- Software
