This tutorial walks you through the basic steps for making a screen-recording using the free version of Clipchamp and exporting it as an MP4.

Required knowledge:

1. Start recording

Open the application that you would like to record and make it full-screen or size the window to your liking. In this tutorial, I have opened MySQL Workbench as a window.

Next, open Clipchamp and follow the slides and instructions:

  • Selecting the Record yourself option to make a screen recording in Clipchamp.
  • Naming and selecting the Screen option for a screen recording in Clipchamp.
  • Starting a screen recording with Clipchamp.
  • Selecting a Window when making a screen recording with Clipchamp.
  • Clipchamp screen recording in progress with Stop sharing button displayed.
  1. Select the Record yourself option
  2. Add a name for the recording
  3. Select Screen from the Record options
  4. Click on the Record button
  5. Select the Windows tab
  6. Select the window you wish to open
  7. Click the Share button
  8. The selected window is activated and has a yellow border around it
  9. The small floating toolbar with the Stop sharing option

2. Finish recording

Once you are ready to end your screen recording, click the Stop sharing button in the toolbar.

3. Export

The clip can now be exported as an MP4.

  1. Click the Export button
  2. Select a resolution from the options (the only format available is MP4)
  3. A progress bar tracks the export
  4. The size of the exported clip is reported
  5. The location of the downloaded file.

The final clip exported at 1080p (high quality) resolution is 1040KB:
